Learn, Observe, Ask Questions, and Experience the Real Beauty Industry
One of the most exciting parts of the beauty industry is that there is no single path to success.
Some professionals work in large salons, some rent suites, some become educators, and others build amazing sales careers for pro only brands.
At Azarra Salon, we believe that the best way to learn about the beauty industry is for you to experience it firsthand.
Our salon is home to a talented group of independent beauty professionals with a wide range of specialties, experiences, and business backgrounds. Between our many color specialists, braider/loc-tician, estheticians and curl specialists, there is a wealth of knowledge to share in one space—and we genuinely enjoy helping the next generation of beauty professionals grow.
What Is a Shadow Day?
A shadow day gives you an opportunity to spend time in a real salon environment and see what happens beyond the classroom, and after state board.
You'll have the chance to:
- Observe client consultations
- Watch service techniques and ask questions
- Learn how to ask the right questions to get the client to their desired end result
- See how independent beauty professionals manage their schedules
- Ask questions about career paths and business ownership
- Experience the day-to-day realities of working in the salon
Most importantly, you'll get an honest look at what it means to build a career doing what you love.
Come Ready to Participate
While shadowing is primarily an observation experience, we encourage students to arrive ready to engage.
The beauty industry is hands-on, and we believe the best learning happens when you're involved.
Depending on the day and the needs of the salon, students may have opportunities to assist with simple tasks such as:
- Greeting guests
- Preparing workstations
- Tearing Foils
- Folding towels
- Organizing supplies
- Sanitizing tools and work areas
- Supporting salon operations
These activities help students gain a better understanding of how successful salons operate and what it takes to create a positive client experience.
Bring Your Professional Mindset
To get the most from your shadow experience, we encourage students to:
- Arrive on time
- Dress professionally
- Bring a notebook for questions and observations
- Stay engaged and curious in front of the clients
- Be willing to help when appropriate
- Respect client privacy and salon policies
Remember, every interaction is an opportunity to learn.
Thinking About Working for Yourself?
Many beauty professionals dream of owning their own business, renting a salon suite, or creating a schedule that fits their lifestyle. Shadowing at Azarra Salon can give you a realistic look at both the rewards and responsibilities that come with working independently.
You'll see that success isn't just about technical skills. It also requires communication, professionalism, organization, marketing, problem-solving, and a commitment to continued learning.
